135 Gardaí have left the force so far this year, as the number of resignations from the police continues to rise.

Last year, there were 107 resignations in total. Just this last month, 12 guards retired and 13 resigned.

According to the Garda Representative Association, the force's morale is at an all-time low. According to the Association, a growing number of gardaí are leaving their jobs due to stress at work, low morale, and unfair treatment.

The President of the GRA Brendan O'Connor predicts that the figures will rise even further before the end of the year.

"Certainly, some of them are beyond the organization's control, and there is societal change in attitude and changes." It is, however, unusual inside An Garda Sochána.

"We believe in the GRA; we could reach 150 or close to it." That's three times what most people would resign for, so we definitely believe it's not a desirable place to work.

"The figures are certainly consistent with what we were seeing." Resignations continue to be a key contributor to the present recruitment crisis.

"The reasons are a lack of training, the bureaucracy, assaults on members, all the issues that the GRA have been highlighting on an ongoing basis."
