Around 300 jobs in TikTok’s Irish operations are at risk as the company undergoes global restructuring.

TikTok employs nearly 3,000 people in Ireland, and workers were informed last month that they would be affected by worldwide job cuts. The Irish Government has been notified of the potential layoffs, with the Department of Enterprise confirming receipt of a redundancy notification from the company.

"The department received a collective redundancy notification in relation to potential redundancies at TikTok Technology Limited on 4 March 2025," a spokesperson said. "Any further queries should be directed to the company."

TikTok has declined to comment on the matter. However, it is understood that the layoffs are part of a broader global restructuring, particularly within the trust and safety unit responsible for content moderation.

This is not the first round of job cuts for TikTok’s Irish workforce. Last July, the company warned of potential layoffs in its monetisation integrity team. In February 2024, a restructuring of its training and quality division affected hundreds of roles, though many employees were reassigned internally. In January 2023, approximately 20 Irish-based jobs were put at risk due to changes in TikTok’s small and medium business division.

TikTok’s Irish operations play a key role in reassuring European regulators about data security. The company’s "Project Clover" initiative aims to safeguard European user data by storing it in data centres located in Dublin and Norway.

The Chinese-owned platform continues to face scrutiny over concerns regarding potential access to user data by Chinese authorities.
