West Pharmaceutical Services, a US-based firm, has announced the creation of 330 new jobs with the expansion of its manufacturing facility in Damastown, Dublin.

Supported by IDA Ireland, the expansion responds to increased demand for drug delivery and manufacturing solutions, particularly for chronic disease treatments like diabetes and obesity.

The project includes constructing a new 165,000 sq. ft. facility, with phase one of production set to begin by the end of 2024.

The new roles will cover various functions, including automation, quality, validation, and maintenance engineering, as well as positions for production supervisors, operators, and toolmakers.

West, which currently employs over 1,200 people in Ireland, has already begun recruitment for these roles.

In addition to its Dublin manufacturing site, West operates a facility in Waterford, which has served as a global center of excellence since 2018, producing specialized packaging components for the pharmaceutical industry.

West’s presence also includes a business solutions team in Blanchardstown, Dublin.

Tom Clarke, VP of Operations at West, stated that this expansion highlights Ireland's strategic role in West’s global operations and commitment to innovation with its clients.

IDA Ireland’s CEO, Michael Lohan, and Minister of State for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Emer Higgins, noted that the job creation is a significant boost to Ireland’s medtech sector and further establishes Ireland as a leading hub for innovation in pharmaceutical packaging and drug delivery systems.
